Frequently Asked Questions ?? WHAT DO I NEED TO ORDER MY GLASSES WITH Spec Head.co.uk ?? All you need is a copy of your prescription which is less than 2 years old. We can also take your prescription details from your existing pair of glasses, if you would like us to do this please contact us and we will be happy to supply you with suitable packaging for you to send us your glasses. ?? WILL MY GLASSES BE MADE TO THE SAME STANDARD AS MY REGULAR OPTICIANS ?? Yes - all of our frames and lenses are glazed at a FMO (Federation of Manufacturing Opticians) registered optical lab with over 30 years experience supplying high street opticians. All our lenses conform to British Standard 2738, the same standard that all prescription glasses sold in the UK are required to meet. ?? HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR PRICES SO LOW ?? We are able to offer the public high quality prescription glasses at much lower prices than you would find on high street for many reasons. The main reason being the fact that we do not have to finance ever increasingly expensive high street premises. ?? CAN I HAVE NEW LENSES PUT INTO MY OWN FRAMES ?? Yes - we offer a Re-glaze service. Please click on the Re-glaze option at the top of the page to find out more. ?? CAN I ORDER FRAMES ONLY WITH CLEAR, NON-PRESCRIPTION LENSES IN ?? Yes - just select ‘Clear’ in the drop down menu when completing your prescription details. ?? WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO RECEIVE MY NEW GLASSES ?? Most glasses are delivered in just 3-4 working days but this is subject to the complexity of the prescription, lens options and coating details etc. Therefore please allow up to 21 days for delivery. ?? WHAT IF MY NEW GLASSES DON’T FIT CORRECTLY ?? In some cases your new glasses may need some minor adjustment. Most optical stores will be happy to do this free of charge and should take only a few minutes. ?? CAN I TRY SOME FRAMES FOR FIT BEFORE I PLACE AN ORDER ?? Yes - we offer you the chance to try up to 3 frames. For this service we require a £20 deposit which is refunded upon return of frames. ?? DO YOU SUPPLY THIN, HIGH INDEX LENSES ?? Yes - if you would like your lenses to be made thinner than standard lenses then we can supply you with high index lenses. Simply select High Index 1.6 lenses or, for even thinner lenses, High Index 1.67 lenses when entering the lens type you require. Both these lens types are recommended for stronger prescriptions and for any one that wants their lenses to be more cosmetically pleasing. ?? WHAT ARE TRANSITION / SUNSENSOR LENSES AND DO YOU SUPPLY THEM ?? Both Transitions and Sunsensors are both brand names of lenses which react to lighting conditions that they are exposed to. So in bright sunlight the lenses become dark and in dark lighting conditions they become clear. They are available in either brown or grey. ?? DO YOU SUPPLY VARIFOCAL/GRADUATE/PROGRESSIVE LENSES ?? Unfortunately we cannot supply these lenses unless you are currently wearing them in an existing frame and would like to have your frame re-glazed with new lenses. ?? DO YOU SUPPLY BIFOCAL LENSES ?? Yes - we can supply bifocal lenses. We use D28 Bifocal lenses as standard. These lenses have a ‘D’ shaped segment which measures 28mm wide. The segment will be positioned 3mm below the vertical centre of the lens and are horizontally centred on the pupillary distance (pd) supplied by yourself. ?? WHAT IS MY PD AND CAN I MEASURE IT ?? Your PD or Pupillary Distance is the distance from the centre of one pupil (the black inner circle of the eye) to the centre of the other pupil. If you cannot find your PD on your prescription you can measure it with the assistance of a friend. Simply ask your friend to place a ruler across the top of your nose, whilst your friend reads the measurement you should be looking over their shoulder focusing into the distance. If no PD is supplied with your order we will glaze your lenses to the UK adult average of 63mm for distance and 60mm for reading. For strong prescriptions and prescriptions that require prism we recommend that you ask your optician to supply you with your PD. ?? WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT ?? We accept all major credit and debit cards through our secure online payment system. We also accept cheques and postal orders made payable to: SpecHead. Please send all cheques & postal orders along with your order form to: SpecHead.co.uk P.O. Box 415 Newton Abbot TQ12 9BP
